This is a song about redemption. I had that main line hanging out in my head for a long time, but it wasn't until I made it through a really low point in my life that the words and melody came together. It was one of those periods in your life where you just sort of feel like you're floating along, not actually a part of the real world. Then something occurs, pulling you back in.
Skye Carrasco supplied the violin and harmony parts. She's great. Check out her music.

lyrics
I was staring at the traffic with the sun in my eyes
The glare being my only care
Then she drove by
Shaken awake from the state I was in
Just waiting for the medication to begin
So I took the distraction
I gave my thanks
Then I carried the sandbags down riverbanks
And I’ll take my place
Among the saints
I’ll take my place among the saints
I was staring down the devil with the skies in my eyes
Tempting the emptiness
Then she flew by
Shaken awake from the state I was in
Over medicated and a little too thin
So I took the enlightenment
I gave my thanks
Strapped back on my revolvers
And removed the blanks
And I’ll take my place
Among the saints
I’ll take my place among the saints
