Ryan gave me this song, which at the time was more of a thrashy, punky thing, and asked me to write a mean-spirited kiss-off lyric to it. I had this lyric for awhile called “My Touch Is Cancerous”, and since nothing had been done with it up til then I scrapped it for parts and used the best phrases for this. Of course I couldn’t make it a full-on “screw you” thing, it had to be kind of sad too. We practiced “Kiss” in its original form for awhile and played it live twice, but we didn’t think it quite worked. We basically rebuilt it from the bottom up into the robo-funk thing it is now. The coda of just guitar and vocals, however, is from the original.

lyrics
Prior to being a pariah to you
I could tell by the sell-by date
This was all preordained
This was all fate
Inexplicably
I tried to go against my programming
But to no avail
So I embraced the taste of evil
Carcinogenic kiss
Blissfully applied
Carcinogenic kiss
To your lips
Prior to being this unkempt wreck
You abandoned at your door
I still held out hope
We could cope with the hand we were dealt
But you felt wrong
Now my wastrel ways and general malaise
Have passed away
Motivation renewed
I’ll raze you if I can’t have you
Carcinogenic kiss
Blissfully applied
Carcinogenic kiss
To your lips
I have just discovered
That my touch is cancerous
In love and lust
Between us now
I’d hoped somehow…
