about

This is an anarchistic protest song which demonizes those in power while at the same time questioning society as a whole. It's about dishonesty and control - the struggle to see through the former and regain the latter.
This song was first conceived about 6 years ago when I was living in Davis, California. The original demo was just a guitar and vocal, inspired by the large quantities of Billy Bragg that I had been consuming. That mess of an ending was actually rather simple and pretty at one point.

lyrics

He pulled the plug from the wall

That connected him to the world

Well he was going blind, it was the only remedy

The archangels’ black sheep

Is collecting all the soul

He’d rather his not be just a memory

So trade your liberties for luxuries

Lionize the lies while you’re killing time ‘til you’re dead

Believe the ruse, the evening news says “All’s well”

While hell rains down on a civilian town

Past your line of sight

We’re all gonna end up just like them

When involved in the wars that no one can win

And we’re all gonna end up back one with the earth

Before we realize what life’s really worth

Well truth was never a problem

She was always told facts and she always believed ‘em

‘Til the day she kicked the tires; they blew up in her face

Now she’s got no trust and she makes her own rules

She’s a regular goddamn queen, but labeled as a disgrace

So raise your false flags high and see who salutes

The forlorn hope couldn’t cope so they gave ‘em enough rope

It’s just retribution…it’s nothing personal

Rehearse your regret then set your sights on the next illicit prize

We’re all gonna end up just like them

When involved in the wars that no one can win

And we’re all gonna end up back one with the earth

Before we realize what life’s really worth
