about

"Never Know" began as a folky tune inspired by The Clash and arranged for banjo, mandolin, and guitar. If you listen to this completed version, none of this really makes any sense.
It's a song about life and death; a song about how we as humans often choose to avoid caring about other people. Skye Carrasco came through for us again with the harmonies on this song. Make sure to check out her music.

lyrics

We got no directions

No shadows to calm us down

The pavement it burns, burns our soles

451 degrees, show me the new witch hunt

Cold sweat and doom as the final die rolls

What was he thinking?

What was he thinking?

Was it friends? Was it family?

Was it “what’s going to be my eulogy?”

We’ll never know

We’ll never know

We’ll never care, he’s just a lousy bum

They’re all the same

Living day to day, half alive

Get up and powder your nose

Frostbite, what a lovely way for the day to start

Distract your eyes, your ears

Divert your sense of morality

For peace is finally obtainable

When the senses are taken apart

What was he thinking?

What was he thinking?

Was it beg? Was it steal?

Was it “what’s gonna be my next meal?”

We’ll never know

We’ll never know

We’ll never care, cuz he’s just a lousy bum

They’re all the same

They ain’t got no name

Going out today

I’m gonna meet the gang

Gonna break some hearts

Break some rocks

Break your back

To earn your pay

Pay it back

Revisit the start

We’re leaving in a labor camp

That’s wearing a gaudy suit and a neon smile

No one knows how bad we look

When we all go out in the same style

What was he thinking?

What was he thinking?

Was it friends? Was it family?

Was it “is this where I want to be?”

They’ll never know

They’ll never know

They’ll never care, cuz we’re all just lousy bums

We’re all the same

We ain’t got no names
